U.S. Marshals Service suffers safety breach By Reuters

(Reuters) -The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) suffered a ransomware safety breach this month that compromised delicate legislation enforcement data, a spokesman mentioned on Monday.

The Marshals Service notified the U.S. Division of Justice to the breach, and brokers there started a forensic investigation, Drew Wade, chief of the Marshals Service public affairs workplace, instructed Reuters in an electronic mail.

“The affected system comprises legislation enforcement delicate data, together with returns from authorized course of, administrative data, and personally identifiable data pertaining to topics of USMS investigations, third events, and sure USMS staff,” Wade mentioned.

The incident happened on Feb. 17, when the service “found a ransomware and knowledge exfiltration occasion affecting a stand-alone USMS system”, after which the system was disconnected from the community, Wade mentioned.

The USMS is a federal legislation enforcement company throughout the Division of Justice.
